Jharkhand HC seeks Dhanbad Municipal Corporation’s response on escalating pollution

Ranchi, Oct 31: The Jharkhand High Court has issued a directive to the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation, soliciting their response regarding the escalating pollution levels in Dhanbad district. This action was taken during a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) hearing brought forth by Gramin Ekta Manch on Monday. The Municipal Corporation has been instructed by the High Court to submit its reply by November 21, detailing the actions taken to curb pollution in the area.

The case was reviewed by Chief Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra and Justice Anand Sen. During the proceedings, the Municipal Corporation’s advocate requested additional time to prepare the response, which was granted by the court. The court has urged the submission of a comprehensive and detailed reply.

The applicant, representing the plaintiff, informed the court that the Municipal Corporation has not taken any discernible steps to mitigate pollution in Dhanbad. The corporation had received multiple letters regarding the issue, but no significant actions had been initiated. Consequently, the court had earlier designated the Municipal Corporation as a defendant, seeking their responses. However, as of now, the response has not been furnished.
