Jharkhand government revises school timings due to rising temperature

Mail News Service

Ranchi, April 24: In view of the persisting heatwave, the Jharkhand government has revised school timings across the state. An official order issued by Nandkishore Lal, Joint Secretary of the Education Department, outlined the new timings for all government, non-government aided, unaided (including minority) and private schools, effective from April 26.

According to the new directive, classes from Kindergarten to Class 8 will now be conducted from 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM. For students of Classes 9 to 12, school hours have been fixed from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The government has taken this decision in view of the rising temperatures and to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The order also emphasized that private schools were to operate in accordance with the provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act and follow the guidelines set by their respective managements.

Although this was the government’s first official directive regarding school timings during the heatwave, several school administrations had already implemented modified schedules based on their discretion. However, reports suggested that some institutions continued full-day operations. With the latest government mandate, all schools—regardless of type or management—were now required to follow the revised schedule strictly.

This move aimed to protect students from the adverse effects of extreme heat. (w/gsd)
