Jharkhand High Court strict on reinstatement of 26K asst teachers, JSSC submits timeline

Ranchi: Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) has submitted a detailed timeline related to the appointment process of Assistant Teachers in the state to the Jharkhand High Court through an affidavit.

The commission has informed that the results of teachers of different categories will be published in a phased manner. According to the information presented, the result of Mathematics and Science subjects for Graduate Level Trained Teacher (Class 6 to 8) will be declared in the first week of July.

The results of Social Science subjects will be released by the third week of July, while there is a plan to declare the result for language subjects in the first week of August.

The final result of Intermediate Trained Teacher (Class 1 to 5) teachers has been said to be published by the second week of September. Under the same time frame, the final result for the post of Assistant Teacher will also be released. The court has accepted this timeline.

During the hearing, senior advocate Rajiv Ranjan and advocate Sanjay Piperwal presented the case on behalf of JSSC.

The case was heard by a division bench headed by High Court Chief Justice MS Ramachandra Rao. In the earlier hearing, the court had expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in the appointment process and directed the state government to reduce the proposed deadline of January 2026. The court had also clarified that the appointment process should be completed within two to three months.

It is noteworthy that a total of 26,001 assistant teachers are proposed to be appointed for primary and upper primary schools in Jharkhand.

On April 8, 2025, the state government’s school education department had assured the court that the appointment process would be completed soon. In this sequence, JSSC had presented the timeline of the process before the court, in which the deadline was earlier set till January 2026.

The court objected to it and directed to expedite it. This petition was filed regarding the huge shortage of teachers in the state schools. The petitioner has pleaded for early appointment of teachers, demanding compliance with the Right to Education Act 2009.
