Jamshedpur: Under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), a 12-member delegation from Ranchi Municipal Corporation undertook a learning-cum-exposure visit to Jamshedpur on January 19 and 20.

The visit aimed to gain first-hand exposure to best practices in urban sanitation, solid waste management, and cleanliness initiatives through knowledge exchange and field-level learning.

During the visit, the delegation closely observed Jamshedpur’s door-to-door waste collection system, source segregation practices, waste processing and disposal mechanisms, public awareness campaigns, and community participation models.

The team was also briefed on innovative initiatives adopted in line with Swachh Survekshan and Garbage Free City (GFC) standards. Officials of the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) delivered detailed presentations on planning, implementation, monitoring mechanisms, and citizen engagement strategies under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).

Field visits and interactive sessions provided practical insights, while discussions focused on challenges in urban sanitation and effective solutions adopted on the ground. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation team appreciated Jamshedpur’s sanitation and waste management model, describing it as replicable for other urban local bodies.

They noted that such learning-cum-exposure visits strengthen institutional capacity and play a vital role in achieving the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The visit concluded with a mutual commitment from both urban local bodies to continue experience-sharing and collaboration in the future, paving the way for the development of cleaner, greener, and more sustainable cities.
