Jharkhand gives Nod to open 8 more Cyber Police Stations in state

Ranchi: In view of the alarming rise in cybercrimes in Jharkhand, the state government has given the nod to open eight new cyber police stations in the state, Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP), Ajay Kumar Singh, said.
Already cyber police stations are functioning in Jamtara, Deoghar, Dhanbad, Giridih, East Singhbhum and Ranchi districts. The new cyber police stations will be opened in Rannchi, Hazaribagh, Latehar, Dumka, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Seraikela-Kharsawan, and Chaibasa with a view to curb online fraud.
In recent times, online financial activities are increasing, and so economic crimes, including cyber crimes, are on the rise. The digital education of police personnel is essential for solving not only cyber crimes, but also the conventional crimes like murder and extortion.
In future the cyber crime would be more malware based. Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) is a part of the training while mentioning that notorious criminal Prince Khan is making VOIP calls from foreign country and the police are unable to trace him.
It is worth mentioning here that since 2016 as many as 7,152 cybercrime cases have been registered in the state out of which over 3,000 are pending. Around 5,000 cyber criminals have been nabbed and more than Rs 2 crore has been recovered from them, he said.
Meanwhile, the CID has referred as many as 33 cases to the Enforcement Directorate for investigation and six FIRs have been registered by the central agency. Properties worth Rs 6 crore have been seized under the PMLA Act and Rs 3.74 crore have been frozen following complaints.
