Jharkhand gets Rs 7,306 crore for Railway infrastructure in 2025-26 Budget

Jamshedpur: Jharkhand has received a record allocation of ₹7,306 crore for railway modernization and expansion in the Union Budget 2025-26, a significant jump from the average allocation of ₹457 crore during 2009-14. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the budget details through a video conference from New Delhi, highlighting substantial increases in railway funding for West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

The allocation for Jharkhand in 2025-26 is nearly 16 times higher than the average budget outlay between 2009 and 2014, reflecting the government’s focus on improving railway infrastructure in the state. Meanwhile, West Bengal has been allocated ₹13,955 crore, a threefold increase from the previous average of ₹4,380 crore. Odisha’s railway budget allocation stands at ₹10,599 crore, about 12.5 times higher than its previous average of ₹838 crore.

Anil Kumar Mishra, General Manager of South Eastern Railway (SER), participated in the video conference from SER headquarters in Garden Reach, Kolkata. He later interacted with media representatives and shared details of key railway projects in the region.

The enhanced budget is expected to accelerate railway modernization and expansion projects, boosting connectivity and economic growth across the three states. The Railway Ministry remains committed to improving passenger amenities, upgrading infrastructure, and ensuring faster execution of ongoing projects.

The significant hike in allocation is a major step toward transforming the railway network in eastern India.
