Jharkhand Electricity Tariff Likely to Rise; Public Hearings Begin March 19

Ranchi, March 7: Electricity consumers of Jharkhand may get a shock  as there is likelihood of increase in the electricity rate in the state.

The process of determining the electricity tariff in the financial year 2025-26 has started. According to the information, JBVNL has proposed to increase the electricity rates of domestic consumers by Rs 2 per unit.

At present, the electricity rate of consumers in urban areas is Rs 6.65 per unit. With an increase of two rupees, its rate will become Rs 8.65. At the same time, there is a proposal to increase the rate of electricity consumers in rural areas from Rs 6.30 to Rs 8.

Jharkhand State Electricity Regulatory Commission (JSERC) will start the process of public hearing on electricity tariff.

It will start in Chaibasa on March 19. After this, public hearing will be held in Dhanbad on 20th, Deoghar on March 21, Daltonganj on March 24 and Ranchi on March 25.

Consensus on tariff will be taken in the meeting of the State Electricity Advisory Committee on March 26. Announcement of new tariff is possible on March 31, which will come into effect from April 1, 2025.

Apart from the electricity tariff, there is a proposal to increase the fixed charge from Rs 100 per month to Rs 200. At the same time, there is a proposal to increase the fixed charge of rural areas from Rs 75 to Rs 150.

Apart from this, there is a proposal to increase the electricity rate of residential colony or apartment from Rs 6.25 per unit to Rs 9.50. At the same time, the fixed charge will be increased from Rs 150 to Rs 250. At the same time, the rate of commercial consumers will be increased.
