Jaduguda, Oct 20: The announcement of BJP candidate Meera Munda for the Potka assembly constituency has sparked significant opposition among local party workers. Following the release of the candidate list by the BJP high command, discontent has intensified, prompting a gathering of BJP workers from 326 booths at Judi Stadium in Potka on Monday to voice their concerns.
Upendra Nath Sardar, State Spokesperson of ST Morcha, emphasized the importance of Potka as the first Bhumij seat in the state. He criticized the decision to grant the ticket to Meera Munda, the wife of former Union Minister Arjun Munda, arguing that it disregards the aspirations of local BJP workers. Several strong contenders for the ticket, including Upendra Nath Sardar and former BJP MLA Maneka Sardar, feel overlooked by the party’s decision.
Resentment is brewing among various BJP leaders, including District Youth Minister Ganesh Sardar and other local party members, who are vocal about their demand for a candidate from within the local BJP ranks. Despite the opposition, Meera Munda visited the area to address community issues, attempting to connect with constituents amid the growing protests against her candidacy.
As the situation develops, the outcome of the gathering at Judi Stadium will play a crucial role in determining the BJP’s strategy in Potka leading up to the elections.
