Jamshedpur: In a major show of support, thousands of people gathered at the office of BJP leader and social worker Shiv Shankar Singh in Jamshedpur East on Sunday. The gathering expressed strong discontent over the selection of Purnima Das, daughter-in-law of former Chief Minister and current Governor of Odisha, Raghubar Das, as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections. Party workers and supporters voiced their frustration over the sidelining of dedicated workers in favor of what they termed “nepotism.”

The crowd rallied behind Shiv Shankar Singh, who has been an active figure in local social work. Addressing the gathering, Singh criticized the party’s decision, stating, “On one hand, BJP denounces nepotism in other political parties, yet here we see it in our own ranks, where loyal workers are ignored in favor of family ties. The people of Jamshedpur East, deeply hurt by this, have decided to back me, and I will submit my nomination papers on Monday.”
Supporters present at the meeting raised slogans backing Shiv Shankar Singh and vowed to work tirelessly to secure his victory in the election. Many pledged their support financially and in campaigning to ensure what they called a “historic win” for Singh.
Prominent attendees included Saraswati Sahu, Ruby Jha, Beauty Tiwari, Rashmi Bhardwaj, Gurucharan Singh Billa, and several other dignitaries. They, along with the large gathering, made it clear that the fight against nepotism in the party had just begun. A press conference is scheduled for tomorrow to provide further details regarding Shiv Shankar Singh’s independent candidacy.
