Jharkhand Education Project Council directs Seraikela DC to investigate school kit supply scam

Seraikela: The director of Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) Sailesh Kumar Chaurasia has written to the Deputy Commissioner of Saraikela- Kharsawan has directed him to take direct action against BRP CRP Mahasangh district president Hridayanand Mahto who used his clout to supply school kits at huge commissions. Sailesh Kumar Chaurasia in his letter to the DC also directed to initiate proceedings against Mahto. A report on the action taken was to be reported to the JPEC office.��

The JPEC Director mentioned in his note that the BRP CRP district president Hridayanand Mahto was supplying school kits and was using his house at Narayandih as a godown. This information was unearthed during a raid conducted at the SDO level. There is a clear cut instruction by the JEPC Department that the school managements were to take quotations from local markets after which to make purchases from the lowest bidder. Kits thus purchased were to be given to the students studying in the individual schools.

The JEPC Director directed the DC to investigate purchases of school kits by school managements of every school in the district and to take necessary action. The school kit scam in Saraikela-Kharsawan district has put the JEPC on its toes and the Department has ordered similar investigations in all districts of the state. In the same vein, all District Education Officers and Education Superintendents have been asked to follow the same norms in the matter of purchase and distribution of school kits to students.

It may be mentioned here that the former DC A Dodde had received information of BRP CRP district president Hridayanand Mahto was operating a godown in his house at Narayandih from where he was supplying school kits to various schools due to sheer clout and earning heavy commission out of this business. On the directives of the DC on August 4, SDO Dr Bashrat Qayum led a team that included Saraikela SDPO Rakesh Ranjan, CO Gitanjali Kumari along with a police force raided the house of Mahto. They found huge quantities of school kit material stored in the house. The house has been sealed since.
