Jharkhand: CRPF jawan injured in IED blast at West Singhbhum

Jamshedpur: Suspected ultras of the banned CPI (Maoists) struck fear into the heart of Kolhan on Thursday as they triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near the village Hessabandh, under the jurisdiction of Mufusil police station. The blast resulted in injuries to CRPF 174 BTN jawan Hafizur Rehman, who was immediately airlifted to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment.

The incident unfolded in the dense forest in West Singhbhum, an area that has become a battleground for the relentless struggle between security forces and the outlawed CPI (Maoists) Naxalite organisation. Notorious leaders, including Misir Besra, Anmel, Maechhu, Chaman, Kande, Ajay Mahta, Sagden Angriya, and Ashwin, along with their squad members, have been actively orchestrating subversive activities in the region.

In response to the escalating threat, a robust joint campaign team comprising Chaibasa Police, CRPF 209, 203, and 205 BN, Jharkhand Jaguar, and CRPF 60 BN, 197 BN, 157 BN, 174 BN, 193 BN, and 134 BN has been assembled to counter the Naxalite menace and restore peace to the troubled areas.

A press communique issued by West Singhbhum police said, “the joint campaign, initiated on October 10, focuses on villages under Goilkera and Tonto police stations, including Kuida, Chhota Kuida, Maradiri, Meralgada, Hathiburu, Tilayabeda Boypaissang, Katamba, Bayhatu, Bora Ey, Husipi, Rajabasa, Tumbahaka, Regada, Patatorab,  Luiya, and the border areas of Lemsadih”.

The latest attack involved an IED planted strategically by Naxalites, aiming to target security forces during their campaign. The blast occurred on November 23, 2023, resulting in injuries to CT/GD Hafizur Rehman of CRPF 174 BTN. Despite the severity of the situation, the brave soldier’s condition is stable, marking a resilient response in the face of adversity.

Prompt action from the Police Headquarters, Jharkhand, and collaboration with CRPF Jharkhand Sector enabled the immediate evacuation of the injured jawan via helicopter to Ranchi for higher medical treatment. The relentless operation against the Naxalites continues, highlighting the unwavering commitment of security forces to eradicate the Naxal menace from the region.
