Jharkhand Congress accuse Centre of playing with tribal rights over forest

“Waqf Amendment a conspiracy to sow discord in society”

Ranchi, April 2: Jharkhand Congress president Keshav Mahato Kamlesh raised serious questions on the policies of the Central Government.

He said that the Forest Rights Act implemented by the Congress government in 2006 ensures rights to water, forest and land to the tribals. But due to the inaction and negligence of the Central Government, lakhs of genuine claims made under this law were rejected without review.

He told that in 2019 the Supreme Court had ordered the eviction of those people from their land whose claims were rejected. However, after the protest, the court stayed it and ordered a thorough review of the claims.

“Now the matter is to be heard again in the Supreme Court, but no concrete steps have been taken by the Central Government. If the review is not done soon, the court’s decision can go against the tribals,” said Mahato.

Apart from this, former Congress president Rajesh Thakur raised questions on the government’s intention regarding the Waqf Amendment Bill.

He alleged that the government wants to create controversy and discord in the society through this bill.

“It is trying to divert the attention of the public from serious issues like unemployment and inflation,” said Thakur.

He also raised the question that when the All India Personal Law Board and many other organizations are opposing this bill, then why did the government not communicate with them.

Former union minister Subodh Kant Sahay launched a sharp attack on the central government regarding the Waqf Bill and termed it a conspiracy to break the secular fabric of the country. He said that this bill is part of the agenda of the BJP since 2014, which is inspired by the intention to divide the society.
