Jharkhand CM warns of closing mines if outstanding dues not paid

Ranchi, February 4: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has given a strict warning to the Central Public Sector Undertakings to pay the dues of Jharkhand which are Rs 1.36 lakh crore. Addressing the 53rd Foundation Day celebrations of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in Dhanbad, he said that a letter has been written to demand the dues, legal ways will also be adopted to protect the rights. Hemant Soren also said that if needed, the coal mine will also have to be closed.

CM Hemant Soren said- ‘Jharkhand has been treated step-motherly for centuries, but if we get down on our own, the whole country will be plunged into darkness.’ He said that the people of Jharkhand know that rights are not obtained by asking for them but by snatching them. He said that the party is definitely in the government right now, they talk about rights with strength.

The Chief Minister said that Jharkhand has a due of Rs 1.36 lakh since independence, when the Union Minister returns to Delhi from Jharkhand, he claims that there is no dues. At the same time, the MPs of opposition parties sit with tape over their mouths. They maintain silence on the question of Jharkhand’s rights.

The right price of land for the mine will have to be paid.

Hemant Soren said that the Union Coal Minister had come to Delhi recently. He said that the price of land in Jharkhand is very high. But the state government has made it clear that if they want to take land for the mine, they will have to pay the price.

Addressing the 53rd Foundation Day of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) at the historic Golf Ground in Dhanbad, Soren criticized the central government for handing over closed coal mines to private entities. He asserted that Jharkhand would not allow this at any cost.

“Water, land, and forests belong to the people. We will reclaim closed coal mines where mining operations have concluded. If necessary, we will introduce new laws to regain control over these lands,” said the JMM leader.

Highlighting the success of the Maiyya Samman Yojana, Soren stated that the scheme has become a model for other states. He noted that the BJP had included it in its campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections, and similar announcements were being made in Bihar.

Expressing disappointment with the Union Budget, Soren remarked that Jharkhand had high expectations but received nothing. “The central government does not talk about grants to states but instead imposes and increases taxes,” he said.
