Ranchi: A delegation from Adivasi Samanvay Samiti Bharat (Assam) met Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the state assembly, presenting concerns of Adivasi families living and working in Assam’s tea garden regions. Members informed him about longstanding social, economic and identity-related hardships faced by Adivasi communities, alleging persistent neglect by Assam authorities that has pushed them backward across sectors.
Soren listened to the delegation’s grievances and assured firm support, stating that Jharkhand is committed to protecting Adivasi culture, traditions and rights wherever they reside. He announced that a Jharkhand delegation will soon visit Assam to assess ground conditions of Adivasi families settled there since the colonial era, when many were taken from Jharkhand to work in tea plantations.

Reiterating his stance on securing Scheduled Tribe status for Adivasis working in Assam’s tea estates, Soren said Jharkhand will pursue measures to ensure fair wage enhancement and work toward resolving land-related issues affecting these communities. Delegation members requested Soren to lead their efforts so their voices reach both state and central governments more effectively.
Present during the meeting were Minister Chandra Linga of the SC, ST and OBC Welfare Department, along with committee representatives Jiten Kerketta, Birsa Munda, Tarun Munda, Ganesh, Ajit Purti, Rajesh Bhuri, Babulal Munda, Mangal Hembram and others.
