Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday met families of martyred constables Sunil Kumar Ram and Santan Kumar Mehta at the CM Residential Office on Kanke Road, Ranchi.
The two jawans were killed during an encounter with TPC at Palamau in September this year.
The families were handed cheques for financial assistance of ₹1.10 crore each under the State Bank of India police salary package. Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore was also present during the event.
This would be in addition to Rs 2 crore each to be given to the families as per Jharkhand police provisions for personnel killed against Maoists.
The CM spoke with the families, learning about their circumstances and consoling them over the loss of their loved ones. He emphasized that the government stands firmly with the families of martyrs and that the supreme sacrifice of the constables in service of the state will never be forgotten. The Chief Minister urged the families to use the assistance to secure a positive future for their children.
Soren announced that the state government will provide free quality education to the children of martyred police personnel and will soon establish a residential school in Ranchi modelled on private institutions, on a four-acre plot in Jharkhand Jaguar campus at Ranchi.
The school will be managed by the police department.
He also said that plans are underway to build a hospital for police personnel and their families to ensure access to quality healthcare at JAP 10 campus in Ranchi.
The CM encouraged the families to remain resilient and raise their children with determination, assuring that police department authorities will continue to support them in times of need. Instructions were given to ensure that all entitlements, including pensions and other benefits, are promptly provided to the families.
Officials present included DGP Anurag Gupta, Palamu SP Rishma Rameshan, SBI Ranchi Circle Deputy Manager Manoj Kumar, AGM Reena Kumari, SBI Chief Manager Vikas Kumar Pandey, and other senior officers. Both widows, who are graduates, will also be given clerical positions as per police department regulations.
