Ranchi: The Hemant Soren-led government is set to present the budget for the financial year 2025-26 on March 3. According to sources, the budget size is expected to be around Rs 1.5 lakh crore, with a significant focus on education, health and welfare. This budget aims to ensure food security, employment opportunities, education guarantees and farmer welfare while maintaining respect and dignity for all citizens.
Last year, the state had passed a budget of Rs 1.28 lakh crore for 2024-25, a significant increase from the Rs 85,429 crore budget in 2019-20 when the current government came into power. The per capita income of Jharkhand has also seen a rise, reaching Rs 1,14,271 in the financial year 2024-25 compared to Rs 1,05,274 in the previous year. The government has actively sought public input for the budget, receiving 1,123 suggestions through various online platforms.

Key areas of focus in the upcoming budget include industrial development, airport cargo infrastructure, mandatory use of fly ash bricks, grants for MSMEs and geo-tagging in the “One District One Product” initiative. Suggestions have also been received on promoting Jharkhand’s cultural and rural tourism, enhancing eco-tourism and utilizing DMFT (District Mineral Foundation Trust) funds for the police force. The government is considering initiatives related to women farmers, a water budget, a millet mission, MSP for PDS and ICDC and cluster farming to strengthen the agricultural sector.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has emphasized that the budget should lay the foundation for long-term development while addressing Jharkhand’s fundamental challenges. The Finance Minister, Radhakrishna Kishore, has indicated that the budget size will likely increase compared to the current Rs 1.28 lakh crore allocation, reflecting the government’s intention to expand investments in schemes and infrastructure. The budget will include provisions to boost employment generation and self-employment opportunities, aligning with the government’s vision for a progressive and developed Jharkhand.
With this budget, the government aims to drive comprehensive development while implementing new policies with fresh energy and vision. The focus remains on creating sustainable growth opportunities that benefit all sections of society.
