Jharkhand Bus Overturns in Chhattisgarh: 5 Dead, Over 20 Injured

Raipur (IANS): A tragic road accident in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district claimed five lives and injured more than 20 people on Friday. The passenger bus, traveling from Kurdeg in Jharkhand to Kunkuri, reportedly lost control and overturned.

Brake Failure Leads to Tragedy

According to police officials, the bus (registration number CG 14 G 0263) was descending a slope in Godamba village around 9:45 a.m. when its brakes failed. Despite a passenger’s frantic plea to stop, the driver could not regain control. The vehicle veered off the road and flipped near an under-construction residence.

Swift Rescue Efforts

Hearing the crash, local residents rushed to the site to rescue trapped passengers using earth-moving equipment. Three ambulances quickly transported the victims to nearby hospitals. Kunkuri Block Medical Officer K. Kujur confirmed the five fatalities, which included a husband and wife, and a father alongside his five-month-old son.

The Deceased Include:

  • Mahesh Ram (45) and his wife Bimla (42) from Duldula, Chhattisgarh.
  • Sampati Devi (52) from Simdega district, Jharkhand.
  • Digeshwar (40) and his five-month-old son, Ghanshyam, from Kurdeg, Simdega district, Jharkhand.

Medical Response and High-Level Team Visit

Collector Rohit Vyas confirmed that four critically injured passengers moved to Ambikapur Medical College for advanced care. Thirteen others remain under treatment at the district hospital and Kunkuri facilities.

In a compassionate gesture, Kaushalya Devi Sai, wife of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, visited the injured at Kunkuri hospital. She enquired about their recovery and directed medical staff to provide the best possible treatment.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the mechanical failure as relief operations conclude.
