Jamshedpur, Oct 13: Jharkhand created history by securing second place in the Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship 2025 held in Dehradun — the state’s highest achievement in basketball to date.
Ritesh Murmu of Jharkhand was awarded the title of “Best 3-Point Shooter” and received a cash prize of ₹25,000 for his stellar performance. The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) also presented an incentive of Rs 2 lakh to the team.
The players received a grand welcome upon arrival at Tatanagar Railway Station, where they were greeted with garlands, sweets and drum beats. Present to felicitate them were Jharkhand Basketball Association Secretary J.P. Singh, President Harbhajan Singh, Treasurer Pradeep Mukherjee, Mango Municipal Corporation Brand Ambassador Mukhtar Alam Khan, Coach Md. Arif Aftab, Assistant Coach Adarsh Kumar, Team Manager Vishal Das and other dignitaries.
J.P. Singh praised the team’s historic achievement and assured continued training and facilities to help them bring further glory to Jharkhand at national and international levels.
