JGKA to host state karate tournament in Ghatsila on June 25-26

Karate should be taught in every Jharkhand school: Ramdas Soren praises Shihan Rao

Jamshedpur, May 26: Jharkhand Goju Ryu Karate Do Association (JGKA) on Sunday held a meeting at J.R.D. Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur, under the leadership of R. Ravi Prasad, former President of Tata Workers Union. The meeting was attended by Ramdas Soren, Education Minister, Government of Jharkhand and Chairman of JGKA, along with Amar Nath Tiwary, Vice President of JGKA and Working President of JUSCO Union, Nagesh Choudhary, Administrator of Skill Development Centre, Tata Motors, and Y. Ishwar Rao, Senior Vice President and President of A.D.L. Society.

Also present were General Secretary Sandeep Kumar, Director Shahzad Qurashi, Chief Instructor Sarju Ram, Treasurer Niraj Kumar and Working Secretary Shihan L. Nageshwar Rao, district representatives, girls’ coaches of Kasturba Vidyalayas, and several Black Belt holders.

During the meeting, the members requested Ramdas Soren for permission to organize the State Karate Tournament in Ghatsila on June 25–26, 2025. Approximately 400 karatekas from various districts of Jharkhand are expected to participate. Soren granted permission for the event and assured full support from his side. He also confirmed that the tournament will be inaugurated by the Sports Minister of Jharkhand.

In his address, Soren emphasized that karate is both a self-defence technique and a disciplined sport. He shared his personal association with Shihan L. Nageshwar Rao, whom he has known for several years. He recalled attending karate tournaments in Jamshedpur and Ranchi alongside the late Sudhir Mahato.

Soren praised the efforts of Shihan Rao and the JGKA team for training children in tribal regions of Jharkhand, noting that many of them have achieved remarkable success. He expressed a strong desire to see karate included in school curricula across the state to empower students with self-defence skills and discipline. He assured continued support to JGKA in their mission.
