Jamshedpur, May 24: A serious accident could occur at any time due to unchecked encroachment in Sakchi Market, warned Akash Shah, district spokesperson of Janata Dal (United). In a statement issued today, Shah expressed deep concern over the deteriorating condition of the market, stating that Sakchi had now come entirely under the grip of encroachments.
He highlighted that for several years, unauthorized shops had been mushrooming on the footpaths, with the number increasing daily. These vendors constructed makeshift stalls using tarpaulin and bamboo, making it difficult for pedestrians to even walk through the market. Shah emphasized that the original layout and functionality of the market—located in the heart of the city—had been ruined.
He warned that in case of an emergency, rescue and relief operations would be nearly impossible due to the congestion, potentially leading to a major disaster. Despite ongoing surveys and collection of trade licenses, rent, and other taxes from shopkeepers in Sakchi’s Serat markets, no improvement has been seen in the market’s infrastructure.
Shah urged the district administration to take immediate and concrete steps to clear the encroachments and streamline the market layout to ensure safety and accessibility.
