Jamshedpur’s Tata Zoo celebrates 34th foundation day

Education Program on Animal Welfare launched

Jamshedpur, Jan 16: Tata Steel Zoological Park, Jamshedpur celebrated its 34 Foundation Day on Tuesday, January 16. The foundation stone of the zoo was laid on 16th January, 1990 and it was inaugurated on 3rd March 1994.

The event was inaugurated among the presence of 350 toddlers and students of the Tata Steel UISL operated South Park School, Rajendra Balika Madhya Vidyalaya Parsudih which is a Government School, a local NGO Anwesha and and Tarapore School, Jamshedpur.

Cake cutting ceremony was organised and these kids and students were invited to cut the cake and supported by the management of the zoo.  Official of the JACAPCPL were also present during the celebration as partner. JACAPCPL is contributing significantly in the development of the zoo.

The celebration also followed by the launching of 15 days Education Program on Animal Welfare which includes series of lectures on wildlife & conservation, touch & learns, keeper talk etc. The zoo employees were also appreciated & honoured for their contribution through handing over of gift vouchers on their role in managing the animals and zoo both.3

The zoo initially was setup with the idea to provide some recreation & entertainment values to the workers of the Tata Steel Limited who are engaged in 8 hours rigorous work every day. But in current scenario, importance of the zoo has changed and zoo has become a centre which caters education & awareness to the people of the Jamshedpur on the issues of the wildlife conservation, pollution, environmental issues and climate change.

Tata Zoo which is medium category zoo as per the Central Zoo Authority categorization is in phase of implementing new master plan which focus on comprehensive upgradation of the zoo including construction of the new animal enclosures, veterinary hospital and bringing new attraction for the visitors.
