Grand Nagar Kirtan to mark Guru Gobind Singh’s 357th Prakash Parv in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur:  Telco Gurudwara is all set to host a magnificent Nagar Kirtan in celebration of the 357th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji on Wednesday. Under the aegis of the Central Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee (CGPC), nagar kirtan will start from Telco gurudwara and will end at Sakchi Gurudwara.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji, born in Patna on December 22, 1666, is revered for establishing the ‘Khalsa Panth’ in 1699, aiming to protect people from oppression and uphold religious freedom. Devotees gathered at Telco Gurudwara to participate in special prayer ceremonies, with free langars (holy kitchen) providing nourishment to mark this auspicious occasion.

Under the auspices of CGPC, a religious procession would commence from Telco Gurudwara and wound its way through various areas, culminating at Sakchi Gurudwara in the evening. The procession will be a vibrant display of Sikh traditions, featuring recitations of sacred Gurubani Keertans by renowned Sikh preachers from the city.

Parmeet Kaur, a Sikh devotee, expressed, “We are celebrating ‘Prakash Utsav,’ the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh, with fervor. Devotees come here with happiness and devotion to celebrate this significant day.”

Giani Iqbal Singh, a Sikh leader, highlighted, “Like every year, we are taking out a religious procession and chanting prayers to celebrate the birth anniversary of our revered Guru.”

During the procession, devotees will chant prayers while walking alongside the chariot. Trained professionals showcase Sikh martial art forms, including the daring ‘Gatka,’ symbolizing victory over evil.

All 33 Gurudwaras in the district are adorned for the occasion, organizing religious congregations and hosting langars as an integral part of the celebrations.

Guru Gobind Singh, the transformative tenth Guru of Sikhs, created the Khalsa in 1699, marking a significant milestone in the Sikh faith. The Khalsa, a community of practicing Sikhs, continues to carry forward the values instilled by Guru Gobind Singh.

As part of the festivities, a two-day congregation at Sakchi Gurudwara has been organized, where participants of the religious procession will be felicitated based on their performances.

The celebration of Guru Gobind Singh’s Prakash Parv stands as a testament to the rich Sikh heritage and the devotion of the community in Jamshedpur.
