Jamshedpur’s Tata Archery Academy cadets Komalika Bari, Ankita Bhakat win gold at World Cup in Paris

Deepika Kumari completes hat-trick of gold medals

Paris/Jamshedpur: Tata Archery Academy cadets Komalika Bari and Ankita Bhakat won gold medals in World Cup Stage 3 in Paris on Sunday in women’s recurve team event. Jharkhand archery trio of Deepika Kumari, Komalika Bari and Ankita Bhakat made the country proud by defeating Mexico.

 Recurve Women Team including current TAA archers Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari and Ex- TAA Archer Deepika Kumari won Gold Medal defeating Mexico by 5-1 in Final. 
Purnima Mahato (Dronacharya Awardee and Tata Archery Academy Coach) was the Coach of the team during this World Cup Stage-3.

Jamshedpur girl Komalika Bari who started her archery training at the ISWP Sports Complex, Jamshedpur later joined Tata Archery Academy and has been training under coaches Dharmendra Tiwari and Purnima Mahato.

On the other hand, Superstar athlete Deepika Kumari completed a hat-trick of gold medals at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Paris on Sunday after winning the women’s individual recurve event.

Deepika Kumari beat Elena Osipova of Russia 6-0 in the final to clinch her third gold medal at the tournament. Deepika has also won the top prize in the mixed team and women’s individual recurve events.

She teamed up with her husband Atanu Das to beat the Netherlands duo of Sjef van den Berg and Gabriela Schloesser 5-3.

“It feels amazing. First time we are playing together (in the final) and won together, feel so happy,” Atanu said after their win. “It feels we are made for each other. But in the ground we are not couple but like just other competitors, we motivate, support and back each other.”

The two got married after a two-year courtship and would be celebrating their first wedding anniversary on June 30.

Before that Deepika, Ankita Bhakat and Komalika Bari defeated Mexico to win gold in the women’s recurve team event. In a repeat of the World Cup first stage final, the troika of World No. 3 Deepika, Ankita and Komalika, who failed to qualify for Tokyo following a shock loss to minnow Colombia, defeated fancied Mexico 5-1 without dropping a set.

This was their second successive gold medal in the World Cup this year, and sixth overall (Shanghai-2011, Medellin-2013, Wroclaw-2013, Wroclaw-2014, Guatemala City-2021). Deepika was a constant each time.

Olympian and Padma Shri Deepika, who hails from Ratu Chhati near Ranchi and is a former cadet of Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur, has moved to Pune after her marriage to archer Atanu Das while Ankita has joined Tata Steel on contract.
