Three including driver killed, four injured as trailer hits auto-rickshaw near Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 27: In a massive road mishap, three persons were killed when an auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a trailer near Ram Rice Mill on NH-32 under Nimdih police station  area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Sunday morning.  Those killed include a middle-aged woman, an elderly man and the autorickshaw driver. The remaining four injured have been admitted at the MGM Medical College Hospital.

The mishap took place at about 7 am when the victims, all residents of Jariadih and Nutandih in Chowka, were going to Balrampur in West Bengal. They were on their way for consult a rural medical practitioner.

A police official informed that seven persons were in the auto, including the driver. He had overtaken a car, but while doing so the driver lost the balance and incidentally hit a speeding trailer which was coming from the opposite direction.

“The head-on collision was massive following which two of the passengers, including a woman were killed on the spot whereas five others were seriously injured. All the injured were first taken to a primary health center (PHC) at Chandil. On the way, one of the injured succumbed to his injury, ” said OC, Nimdih police station , Ali Akbar Khan.

He went on to inform that the doctors at the Chandil PHC had immediately referred the four injured to the medical college hospital in Jamshedpur.

The OC said they have shifted bodies of those killed to the Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem. They have also seized both the autorickshaw and the trailer.

Soon after the mishap, the local residents led by BJP’s Nimdih block level leaders set up a blockade on the NH, demanding speed-breakers on the stretch along the Ram Rice Mill. Vehicular movement remained disrupted for hours at the NH-32 at Nimdih.
