Jamshedpur’s Nageshwar one qualifying round away from finals of 2nd Okinawa Karate World Tournament  

Jamshedpur, Aug 4: Tata Steel Sports Wing’s L Nageshwar Rao has cleared two qualifying rounds in Naha-te Kei style at the 2nd Okinawa Karate World Tournament currently underway at Okinawa in Japan. Nageshwar came through the second qualifying round with a grand performance on Thursday, August 4. On Saturday, August 6, Rao will fight it out for a place in the final. The Steel City Karate coach is one round away from qualifying for the finals to be held on Sunday, August 7.

Talking to The Avenue Mail from Japan, Rao said, “The competition here is very tough as masters of the game from all over the world are participating in this prestigious world event. I have cleared two qualifying rounds and will now play the main tournament on August 6 and hope to make it to the finals.”

He informed that affiliated members from all over world including world renowned Goju Ryu, Shuto Ryu, Shoto Kan, Wado Ryu, Uechi Ryu, Shorin Ryu grand masters were participating in the 2nd Okinawa Karate World tournament. The championship has been organised by Okinawa Prefectural Government, Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports and Nageshwar Rao is one among the 16 sports persons from India invited to the tournament.

A 6th Dan Black Belt, L Nageshwar Rao will also undergo Advanced Karate training under world grandmasters from August 8 to 14.
