Ranchi, July 2: Keenan Stadium (formerly Temple Ground), the first cricket stadium in Jharkhand, is set to undergo a transformation to match up to sophisticated, international standards. Plans are underway to usher in a new dimension to this stadium that has been a cricketing sentinel since 1939. The thirst of Jamshedpur cricket enthusiasts to witness big time, international cricketers will be quenched once The Keenan remerges with an international glitter.
The last international cricket tie witnessed at this ground was the one day international between India and England on April 12, 2006. Since then, no international cricket match has been organized at the venue, and the condition of the ground has deteriorated over time. After almost 17 years, preparations have begun to revamp the stadium and upgrade it to an international-level cricket venue.

The revamped Keenan Stadium is expected to play a significant role in hosting IPL matches. As Tata is the main sponsor of the IPL, the company is working on the stadium to ensure it meets the necessary standards for hosting IPL games. There are discussions suggesting that Tata is considering making Keenan Stadium its team’s practice base camp, and preparations are underway accordingly.
The renovated stadium will have limited seating arrangements, allowing spectators to sit on the grass and enjoy the game. This concept has been inspired by stadiums in various countries, including Australia and England, where oval-shaped stands provide elevated grassy areas for spectators to watch the matches sans discomfort.

Several crucial decisions are yet to be taken on the construction of the stadium. The ground will undergo a complete renovation, and considerations are being made regarding what elements will be demolished and reconstructed. While the building of Prem Jyoti Prangan School will not be demolished, it might be relocated near the Utkal Association School.
The project will not only enhance the stadium’s infrastructure but also attract prominent cricket tournaments, including IPL matches, to Jamshedpur, providing cricket enthusiasts in the region with an exciting and memorable cricketing experience.
