Jamshedpur, Nov 7: Jugsalai is one of the most populated areas in the city with business establishments and residential areas clamoring for space. Traffic congestions, in spite of half-hearted administrative efforts add to the forehead furrows of denizens throughout the year. But life and business must go hand-in-hand for socio economic survival.
Festive seasons do bring touches of colour to otherwise mundane living. But come the festival of lights, Diwali, and the residents are pitched onto the terrain of explosive piles of crackers that can be definitely avoided with strict and no-nonsense administrative efforts.
ARK Crackers and two other business establishments along the Station Road in Jugsalai are licensed sellers of fire crackers. But snakes in rat holes abound as many other shops nonchalantly stock up with these crackers along the same main road and shops in other business addresses in Jugsalai Bazaar and even maintain godowns in the various residential locations that have the potential to cause innumerable threats to life and property.
But, as the Elvis Presley song goes, ‘It is better late than never,’ the administration did respond to the call of duty (and responsibility) and conducted raids on several shops and godowns and confiscated two truck-loads of fire crackers stocked illegally or beyond permissible licensed stock.
If this administrative move is sufficient to thwart moral-less traders from their killer pursuits, will be an abstract poser. But it requires more such raids to ensure a limited period of safety before the inconsiderate cycle of deadly monetary pursuits starts rotating again.
However, one can and should wish ‘Happy Diwali and be safe.’
