Jamshedpur’s international athlete Shanti Mukti Barla dies in road accident

Jamshedpur, Jan 8: On Monday morning, international athlete Shanti Mukti Barla lost her life in a road accident on NH 33 in Jojodih under the Tamar police station of Ranchi district. Shanti, who served as a sports teacher at Jamshedpur Women’s University, was originally from Gumla but resided with her family in Adityapur.

On the fateful day, Shanti was traveling to Gumla on a scooty with her friend Seema Kumari. Unfortunately, a car collided with them near Jojodih in Tamar, resulting in Shanti’s immediate demise. Seema sustained severe injuries in the accident.

Shanti Barla had recently achieved significant success in sports, winning the gold medal in the 100-meter event at the Jharkhand State Masters Athletics Championship held at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur. She had also secured multiple medals in the International Master Athletics Championships held in Dubai.

Avtar Singh, Vice President of Tata Steel Sports Department, expressed condolences and mentioned that Shanti had won a gold medal in the athletics competition held at JRD Sports Complex on January 7. A tribute meeting was organized in memory of the international athlete at JRD Tata Sports Complex, where attendees paid their respects by placing flowers on her photo.

Avtar Singh and Sanjeev Kumar Tomar were also present at the tribute meeting to honor the achievements and contributions of Shanti Mukti Barla in the field of athletics.
