Jamshedpur, April 18: In a significant development concerning electricity supply in Cable Town, Golmuri, the Jharkhand High Court, in response to a writ petition filed by the Indian Cable Workers Union, directed on February 28, 2025, that the matter be listed for final settlement on March 7, 2025. The court also stated that in the interim, residents/occupiers may approach JUSCO Limited (now TSUISL) for individual electricity connections, which the company was to consider as per the law.
Due to a change in the High Court bench, the matter had not yet come up for final execution. However, the February 28 order clearly empowered consumers to apply directly to JUSCO (TSUISL) for household connections. Currently, about 1,035 homes in Cable Town received electricity through nine vendors, who not only managed supply but also collected bills, often at inflated rates.
Efforts have been ongoing since June 2023 to facilitate direct electricity connections from JUSCO (TSUISL), but the company had previously cited the lack of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Resolution Professional (RP) of the defunct Cable Company as a hindrance.
Following this, Ram Vinod Singh, a Cable Town resident and member of the union, approached the High Court again, resulting in the February directive. JUSCO’s General Manager (Electricity) had confirmed that no applications had been received so far and assured that any incoming requests would be processed as per rules.
Residents were now being strongly encouraged to submit individual applications to JUSCO (TSUISL) for direct power supply. This step was crucial not only to ensure fair billing and improved service but also to demonstrate compliance when the case was heard by the court’s new bench.
This proactive approach by consumers could significantly influence the final outcome and ensure a just resolution in favor of the residents of Cable Town.
