Jamshedpur, May 8:  Jamshedpur, known as the Steel City, is also known for its cultural and sports pursuits amidst an environment of natural beauty which, very few other industrial cities can boast of. If one turns back the pages of celluloid history, the Bengali movie, ‘E Jahar Shei Jahar Noi’ was one of the initial celluloid ventures that was shot in Jamshedpur in the late ‘50s of the last century. Later, much later, a few more films were shot here. The more recent was the block buster and critically acclaimed film produced by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Vikramaditya Motwani, ‘Udaan.’ In between, some more movies, mostly Bhojpuri including director Md Nizam’s, ‘E Sipahi Sainya’ and Md Habib’s ‘Pyaar ke Anjaam’ which is awaiting release, have captured the beauty of Jamshedpur in all its glory. Santali and Rarhi Bangla films have heightened the alluring draw of this steel city that has been nurturing its natural heritage through more than a century. In 2021, director Raja Gangopadhyay captured the city’s environs in his film, ‘Mystery, a Truth.’

Presently, Md Habib is back again to shoot for his latest Bhojpuri endeavor, ‘Khamoshi’ which is fast nearing completion. Established Bhojpuri stars like Raghav Pandey, Ayaz Khan, Ritika Sharma and Sneha Sharma are sharing screen space with Jamshedpur actors thereby opening the scope for the city’s talents to make it big in the country’s more popular tinsel towns.

Actors Raghav Pandey, Ritika Sharma and Ayaz Khan who are first-timers to Jamshedpur were swept off their feet by the locales the city had to offer. Raghav could barely mute his excitement when he observed, “There are so many fascinating locales here (Jamshedpur) where you will be spoilt for choice. Films can be shot here extensively. The city offers a wide scope for shooting big banner films.”

About ‘Khamoshi,’ both, Raghav and Ritika said, “This is a family entertainer with a love twist. There is absolutely no vulgarity in this movie.”

Ritika Added, “I am simply bowled over by Jamshedpur and its scenic beauty. If I get a scope to come to Jamshedpur again, I will not give the offer a second thought and grab it. If the government provides financial exemptions, more films from film cities will come to Jamshedpur to shoot and what’s more, more local talents will get greater exposure.”

Director, Md Habib who hails from this city, said that thus far, he has produced and directed half a dozen films in Jamshedpur. One of them, a Bhojpuri venture, ‘Pyaar Ke Anjaam’ is awaiting release. Habib stated, “The shooting of ‘Khamoshi’ is almost complete. Jamshedpur’s artistes are now getting more opportunities to showcase their talents. They just need to work hard and then, nothing could stop them from making it big in the celluloid world.” Habib informed that shooting of four more films are in the pipeline and will commence soon.
