JHRO raises questions on number of autos plying in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, May 8: Manoj Mishra, Chairman of Jharkhand Human Rights Organisation (JHRO) while presiding a special meeting at the Chhayanagar office raised the issue of number of auto rickshaws plying in the city by taking a sharp dig at the administration when he questioned, “While helmet and document checking is being conducted strictly in the city for two-wheeler riders, why are permits not being checked for auto rickshaws?  Commercial vehicles including auto rickshaws block main thoroughfares of the city by drivers who park their vehicles where they are not allowed to. These add to the constant threat of accidents. Why are they not fined or their vehicles seized?”

He claimed that autos plying in the city exceeded the number officially permitted to run in and around Jamshedpur.

“Tempos carry more passengers than their capacity and yet they go unchecked. Many of these autos do not have permit to ply in the city but they are being run and the police are in the know of it all. This is a clear example of double dealing as two wheeler riders are not spared for any flaw in the observance of traffic norms, the tempo drivers go scot-free. Many autos do not have permits for the city and yet they are plying in the city with the knowledge of the police. But no action is being taken at the administrative level.”

Other speakers said that the JHRO would take initiative and run a campaign on issues related to public interest issues on education and health including irregularities prevailing in the ESCI Hospital. Among those present in the meeting included Salawat Mahto, Abhijit Chanda, Kishore Verma, Renu Singh, DN Sharma, Jagannath Mahanty, Anima Das and Debasish Das.
