Jamshedpur, Oct 24: A shocking case of online blackmail has surfaced in the MGM police station area, where a young woman was allegedly trapped in a fake love affair and later blackmailed by a youth identified as Danish Ansari, a resident of Old Purulia Road under Mango police station.
According to police, Danish developed a close relationship with the woman and gained her trust.
During this time, he secretly captured her objectionable photos on his mobile phone.
Later, he began threatening to make the photos public and demanded a hefty sum of money.
When the woman refused to pay, the accused went ahead and leaked the photos on social media on October 18.
Even after the photos went viral, Danish continued to threaten the victim, warning that he would release more photos and videos if his demands were not met.
Distressed and humiliated, the victim confided in her family and lodged a complaint with MGM police.
Acting swiftly, police arrested Danish Ansari and seized his mobile phone, which has been sent for forensic analysis to recover digital evidence related to the blackmail and circulation of photos.
Police said another suspect, Nasish Ansari, has also been named in the case and is currently absconding. Efforts are on to trace and arrest him.
MGM police station officer-in-charge confirmed that the case involves cybercrime and violation of a woman’s privacy and dignity.
Strict legal action is being taken under relevant sections of the IT Act, blackmail, and sexual exploitation laws.
Police have urged people to immediately report such incidents and not to succumb to threats or extortion.
They also appealed to families and society to stand by victims in such traumatic situations.
