Jamshedpur, May 3: A youth, identified as Dheeraj Kumar, arrested in an elopement case, escaped from police custody in Sitaramdera on Monday.
According to police, Dheeraj, accused of forcing a minor girl to elope with him, had surrendered before Sitaramdera police on Monday. The police officials on duty had asked the youth to sit in the police station office instead of sending him into the lock-up as his health was not good. Late night, the youth somehow freed himself from the rope tied to his handcuff by cutting it. The youth escaped with the handcuff on.
The officer in-charge Akhilesh Mandal said the on duty officers would face departmental action for the dereliction of duty.
