Jamshedpur: A tragic incident took place at the Dimna lake under Bodam police station area on Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports, 21-year-old Krishna Rana, a resident of Giridih district, had come to visit the lake along with his friends. All of them worked as carpenters.
Six youths entered the lake for a bath, with Krishna being the last one to step into the water.
Moments later, he started drowning. His friends tried to rescue him but failed due to the depth of the water. They quickly came out and informed nearby people and the police.
However, police reportedly reached the spot after a long delay and only carried out formal questioning instead of initiating immediate rescue operations.
It was only later that local fishermen arrived and managed to pull Krishna out of the water, but by then he had already died.
This is not the first such incident at Dimna lake. Several drowning cases have been reported in the past, yet the administration has failed to deploy lifeguards or install proper warning signs.
Locals have repeatedly demanded safety measures, but no concrete action has been taken.
The incident has once again highlighted the negligence of the authorities and sparked fresh calls for urgent implementation of rescue and safety arrangements to prevent furtgher tragedies.
