Jamshedpur, July 31: An unidentified youth was caught by a mob after he allegedly snatched the mobile phone of a man near Sakchi Jail Chowk on Sunday. He was thrashed by the mob before being handed over to police.
Sources said the incident occurred in the afternoon when the accused allegedly snatched the mobile phone of one Sanjay Pramanik, a resident of Tiruldih, Seraikela-Kharsawan, near Hotel Jeeva and started running away. Several commuters and passers-by chased the accused and caught him at some distance. They recovered Pramanik’s mobile phone from the roadside where the accused had reportedly thrown it while being chased by the mob, sources said.
When caught, the accused allegedly assaulted Pramanik with a liquor bottle and also tried to injure himself. Later, police was called in to arrest the accused. Cops sent the accused and the victim to MGM Hospital for treatment. They said a probe was on into the incident.
