Clay Bowls to Paper Weights: Students Shine in ‘Best Out of Waste’ Contest

Jamshedpur, April 11: The Department of Commerce and Management at Jamshedpur Women’s University successfully organized the “Ingenious Art – Best Out of Waste” competition on April 11, 2025. Aimed at fostering creativity and environmental consciousness, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from girl students who transformed waste materials into useful and artistic household items.

Under the theme ‘Best Out of Waste’, students prepared items such as pen stands, dustbins, doormats, clay bowls, clay bottles, and paper weights using discarded materials. These products were not only artistically crafted but also served practical purposes, reinforcing the importance of sustainable living.

The event began with a warm welcome from the Head of the Department, Dr. Kamini Kumari, and Dean Dr. Deepa Sharan, who honored the panel of judges with plant saplings as a symbol of eco-consciousness. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sharan highlighted the utility of the items created, stating, “All the entries are not only environmentally friendly but also beneficial for everyday use.” She also emphasized the importance of using clay bowls to provide water for birds, a step that was immediately implemented on campus post-competition.

The judging panel comprised Dean Student Welfare Dr. Kishwar Ara, Dr. Deepa Sharan, Dr. Kamini Kumari, Dr. Manisha Tits, Dr. Pushpa Kumari, Dr. Nupur Anvita Minz, Dr. Sonali Singh, Dr. Gloria Purti, Amrita Kumari, and Dr. Chhaganlal Agarwal.

Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta congratulated all participants and encouraged them to use their artistic talents for the betterment of society. The program concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Gloria Purti. Faculty members including Ms. Bhavna Kumari, Jayanti Pradhan, Anshu Verma, and all students of the department were present on the occasion.
