Jamshedpur Women’s University hosts 2nd Annual Sports Competition 2025

Jamshedpur: The 2nd Annual Sports Competition of Jamshedpur Women’s University was held today at the JRD Sports Complex, bringing together students from various faculties to celebrate sportsmanship and cultural unity. The event kicked off with a traditional tribal dance, followed by the flag hoisting ceremony led by Chief Guest Hari Kumar Keshari, IAS, Administrative Officer, Commissioner of Kolhan Division, and Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University, Chaibasa.

The ceremony included a vibrant parade featuring participants from NCC, NSS, and the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, and Vocational Studies. Dr. Sanatan Deep, Head of the Sports and Culture Department, delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for a day filled with athleticism and camaraderie. The Kulgeet, a university anthem, was sung by Dr. Sanatan Deep and students, adding to the festive atmosphere.

The event was graced by several distinguished guests. Special Guest Purnima Mahato, a Padma Shri and Dronacharya Award winner, encouraged the students to find a balance between sports and academics. Olympian and Asian Games medalist Ankita Bhagat also addressed the gathering, inspiring students to excel in both sports and studies. Dr. Hasan Imam Malik, International Handball Coach and Executive Health and Welfare Officer at Tata Steel, praised the students of Jamshedpur Women’s University for making significant achievements at the national and international levels in various sports.

Chief Guest Hari Kumar Keshari emphasized the importance of sports in all-round personal development, stating, “Sports highlight the inclusive side of personality, fostering teamwork, discipline, and leadership.” Aditi Kumari of M.Com then administered the oath to the participants, ensuring the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship prevailed throughout the competition.

In a special segment, the Vice Chancellor of Jamshedpur Women’s University, Prof. Dr. Anjila Gupta, lauded the university’s achievements and the excellent organization of the event. The university’s top achievers in sports were felicitated with Awards of Excellence. Awardees included Karnisha Das (Karate, International), Aditi Kumari and Bharati Kumari Bankira (Handball, National), Suman Lohar (Tennis Ball Cricket, National), Maino Tudu (Karate, International), and Anmol Pari Mishra (NCC Youth Exchange Programme to Bhutan).
The competition saw a variety of events, including badminton (singles and doubles), table tennis, chess, volleyball, kabaddi, and yoga. Athletic events like the 1500-meter race, javelin throw, high jump, and triple jump also took place, with winners receiving their prizes from the Chief Guests and dignitaries.

The event was attended by several key university officials, including Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Kishwar Ara, Registrar Rajendra Kumar Jaiswal, Controller of Examinations Dr. Rama Subramanyam, and Finance Officer Dr. Javed Ahmed, among others. The successful event highlighted the university’s commitment to promoting sports and fostering an environment of holistic development for its students.
