Jamshedpur Women’s University: Best Athlete Aditi Modak wins Shanti Mukta Barla Memorial Trophy

Annual Sports Meet concludes at Jamshedpur Women’s University

Jamshedpur, January 8: The 2nd Annual Sports Meet of Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) concluded with enthusiasm and grandeur at the JRD Tata Sports Complex. The event featured a vibrant closing ceremony graced by Chief Guest Kishor Kaushal (IPS), SSP Jamshedpur, Guest of Honour Vibhuti D. Adesara, Head of Sports Programme and Training Centre, Tata Steel, and Special Guest Dr. Hasan Imam Mallick. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Anjila Gupta presided over the event, with key university officials, including Registrar  Rajendra Kumar Jaiswal and Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Kishwara Ara, in attendance.

The program began with a traditional tribal dance and a welcome address by Sports & Cultural Chairman Dr. Sanatan Deep, who appreciated the participants’ performances. Chief Guest Kaushal highlighted the role of sports in fostering mental agility and resilience, while Adesara emphasized the significance of women’s participation in sports and its connection to life skills. Dr. Mallick suggested introducing MPEd and BPEd programs to enhance sports education for women in the state.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Gupta praised the efforts of the students, staff, and faculty, acknowledging the achievements of JWU’s athletes at national and international levels. She also instituted the Shanti Mukta Barla Memorial Trophy in memory of the late Barla, an alumna who excelled in sports and brought laurels to the university.

The highlight of the meet was the recognition of winners across various categories. Aditi Modak of BCA was crowned Best Athlete, securing two gold medals in shot put and discus throw. She was awarded Shanti Mukta Barla Memorial Trophy.

Other winners included Sujata Kumari (800m race), Pranita Pawar (long jump), and Shubhagni Kumari (200m race). The relay team comprising Shubhadra Kumari, Anima, Shubhagni, and Jyoti clinched the 4x100m relay gold. Among staff events, Kiran Kaur and Arpan won the 400m race, while Sudha Deep and Rohit Kumar triumphed in the spoon race.

Medals and certificates were awarded by the dignitaries, followed by the lowering of the university’s sports flag. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Registrar Jaiswal and the national anthem.
