Jamshedpur: From chasing criminals to chasing dreams, Jharkhand Police constable Aditya Rakesh is living proof that talent knows no boundaries. His soulful song Mere Sanam has set the internet ablaze, racking up over 30,000 views, 1,200 likes, and 160 comments within just five hours of its release by Zee Music Company.

What sets Rakesh apart from the scores of singers trying to make it big? His raw passion for music, nurtured against all odds, and a voice that resonates with millions. One YouTube user, @pritammishra4330, couldn’t hold back, commenting, “Mere Sanam highlights soulful voice and musical versatility. The song blends heartfelt lyrics with a captivating melody, showcasing his growth and passion for quality music.” Another fan wrote, “The way you convey love and emotion in lyrics is incredible.”

But the path to Bollywood was anything but smooth for this constable-turned-singer. Born in a remote, Naxal-affected village in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, Rakesh grew up in a world where music and education were luxuries. “Music and art were not valued in my family,” he recalled. “My parents wanted me to focus on studies, so I worked hard to excel in my board exams and secured admission to Ranchi University.”

Even while pursuing academics, Rakesh’s heart longed for music. After graduating, he moved to Gaya to formally train under Nitesh Singh, all while preparing for the Jharkhand Police constable exams to support his family. In 2011, he joined the state police and was posted in the cyber cell.

Though his police career demanded discipline, his love for music refused to take a backseat. Rakesh composed several songs, and his debut track, Mere Maula, released by World Wide Music, marked his entry into the music world. However, it was his upbeat tracks like Ranchi Ki Chori and the Jharkhand Police Anthem that won him statewide acclaim.

Now, with Mere Sanam, Rakesh has made his Bollywood debut. The song, penned and sung by him, is a blend of heartfelt lyrics and mesmerizing vocals. “This is my first Bollywood release, and it feels surreal,” he shared with The Avenue Mail. The music video, shot in the picturesque landscapes of Kazakhstan, features actors Manish Rana and Rashmi Gupta, with Manoj Sharrma composing the music, and producer and director of the song is Mohit Kapoor.

Rakesh’s inspiring story has captivated not just music lovers but also those who dream of overcoming hurdles. From a small village boy with no resources to a celebrated artist in the national spotlight, Aditya Rakesh’s journey is a testament to perseverance, passion, and the power of dreams.

For now, the internet is singing his tune, and one thing is clear—this constable’s voice has traveled far beyond his beat.
