Jamshedpur Women’s University–Akashvani event marks 90 years of Radio Legacy

Students Shine in Extempore Competition, Winners Felicitated

Jamshedpur, May 6: A special programme was jointly organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of Jamshedpur Women’s University (JWU) and Akashvani Jamshedpur to celebrate the 90th anniversary of All India Radio. The event was held on the university campus and aimed at highlighting the legacy of radio broadcasting while introducing students to the practical aspects of radio journalism.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of JWU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ela Kumar. Rajesh Kumar Rai, Programme Head of Akashvani Jamshedpur, attended as the chief guest and spoke about the evolution of radio in India. He highlighted how Akashvani has played a vital role in promoting unity, culture, and information dissemination since its inception in 1936.

Senior officials from Akashvani, including Rakesh Raman, Vivek Aditya, and Rajiv Ranjan Tiwari, were present at the event. From the university, Dean of Student Welfare Dr. Kishwar Ara and faculty member Dr. Shalini Prasad also played key roles in organising the programme.

A major highlight of the event was an extempore speech competition conducted jointly by Akashvani and the university. Students actively participated and showcased their speaking skills on various topics, with winners receiving appreciation for their performance.

During the programme, Programme Executive Rajiv Ranjan Tiwari was felicitated for his contributions and coordination efforts. The event concluded with a message encouraging students to explore opportunities in radio and media.

The program concluded with the distribution of certificates and prizes to all the participating students. In her vote of thanks, Dr. Shalini Prasad emphasized that this collaboration between Akashvani and Jamshedpur Women’s University would prove to be a milestone for the future of the students.
