Jamshedpur, July 18: A woman from Mango fell victim to fraud at the Central Bank of India ATM located near Delhi Darbar in the Sakchi police station area of Jamshedpur, losing Rs. 34,500 to a fraudulent scheme. The incident occurred on Wednesday night, prompting a response from the Sakchi police who arrived at the scene to investigate. A formal complaint has been lodged at the Sakchi police station regarding the incident.
According to reports, Sahay Gupta’s wife had gone to the ATM to withdraw money when her card got stuck inside the machine. A man who was present at the ATM advised her to call the engineer’s number displayed on the premises for assistance. However, upon calling, the person on the other end requested her PIN code under the pretext of facilitating the card’s retrieval. Subsequently, while the woman was away from the ATM, unauthorized withdrawals totaling Rs. 34,500 were made from her account—three withdrawals of Rs. 10,000 each and one of Rs. 4,500.
Currently, the police are examining CCTV footage from nearby installations as part of their investigation into the fraudulent incident.
