Jamshedpur, Oct 18: The Manki-Munda Rights Padyatra (foot march) that commenced from the Binapani High School Ground in Baharagora on Sunday, concluded in Jamshedpur at the District Collectorate on Wednesday. The Manki-Munda rights Padyatra participants held a protest demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office before a delegation of the Union handed the seven-point Memorandum of Demands addressed to the Jharkhand Government to the district administration authorities. The four-day, 100 km long Manki-Munda padyatra was led by the District President, Roshan Purty.
The Manki-Munda Rights padyatra participants made a night halt at Nandup Football Ground in Sundarnagar on Tuesday before proceeding to the DC’s office on Wednesday morning. Along the way, the Padyatra was warmly welcomed at various locations. At Karandih Chowk, students from the Adivasi Hostel of LBSM College, State Vice President of BJP Kisan Morcha, Rajkumar Singh, BJP SC Morcha President Vivekananda Sirka, and Block Deputy Chief Shiv Hansda, among others, welcomed the marchers with garlands.
Accompanied by Rajkumar Singh and others, people in Karandih Chowk joined the march, supporting it all the way to Khasmahal Charkhamha. Vivekananda Sirka said that the Manki-Munda community had been presenting their demands to the government for a long time to preserve their traditional customs and systems but the urgings had gthus far fallen on deaf ears.
