Jamshedpur: Action demanded against policemen involved in assaulting youth

Jamshedpur, Oct 18: Relatives of Mohammad Zaid, a resident of Jugsalai Chuna Shah Colony who was allegedly beaten up by policemen, have lodged a written complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on Wednesday regarding the alleged assault and demanded appropriate action against the personnel involved. According to the complaint, Mohammad Zaid’s father, Md Zahiruddin, mentioned that on Tuesday, around 12:50 PM, his son was on his way to his shop in the village garage when he was stopped by the police for checking near the Parvati Ghat gate. Md Zaid took out his mobile phone to call someone, which was snatched by the policemen and he was subjected to physical assault. They also behaved rudely with him. Police personnel also resorted to using batons and punches in the presence of an SI. The complaint further noted that after a severe thrashing, Zaid’s mobile phone was returned, but his motorcycle was seized. Shortly thereafter, Md Zaid returned home and informed his family about the incident. His father, Md Zahiruddin, then went to the scene of the incident and asked police SI Vikas Kumar about the reason for the assault, but the official denied any involvement and left.
Later, after paying a fine, Md Zahiruddin reclaimed the motorcycle from the traffic police station. The entire incident had been captured on nearby CCTV cameras. The victim’s family has demanded appropriate action in this matter.
