Jamshedpur: Villages to get soak pit toilets, Rs 12,000 incentive for eligible beneficiaries

Jamshedpur: As per the instructions of Deputy Commissioner  Ananya Mittal, a comprehensive review meeting of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department was held at the Collectorate Auditorium, Jamshedpur. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Development Commissioner (DDC)  Aniket Sachan, where key updates on the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission – Rural were discussed.

During the session, the DDC reviewed both urban and rural water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He instructed the concerned officials to ensure the completion of the Bagbera major water supply scheme by June this year and initiate the supply of potable water. Additionally, he emphasized speeding up the pipeline work under the Bodam-Patamda major water supply scheme so that it can be completed and commissioned within a month.

Expressing concern over delays in the Gudabanda Big Water Supply Scheme due to obstruction by a local resident,  Sachan directed officials to resume the work at the earliest and file an FIR against the individual if further disruptions occur. The scheme is expected to benefit nearly 70 villages upon completion.

The DDC also instructed officials to take stringent action against illegal drinking water connections in Bagbera Housing Colony. He further directed the Village Water Sanitation Committees (VWSCs) to ensure regular operation of drinking water supply systems, proper maintenance, and timely collection of user charges.

Focusing on sanitation goals, the DDC urged speedy certification of the 1,640 villages targeted to become ODF Plus (Open Defecation Free Plus) by December 2025. He emphasized the importance of creating awareness about solid and liquid waste management practices among villagers.

Plastic waste separation sheds have already been constructed in 46 panchayats. The DDC instructed the VWSCs to ensure their proper functioning and the systematic disposal of waste. Campaigns will also be organized to promote the construction of soak pit toilets. Eligible beneficiaries will receive a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of ₹12,000 upon successful completion of toilet construction.
