Jamshedpur, March 8: Over hundred people blocked the Sundernagar main road for several hours, demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for the next of kin of a deceased couple killed in road accident here on Tuesday.
The protestors staged a demonstration in support of their demand after keeping the bodies of the deceased on the main road. They refused to buzz from the spot without getting assurance from the district administration authorities.

The couple, Girish Sardar, a retired Tata Steel employee, and his wife Surjomani Sardar, were run over by a speeding car near Kadamdih under Sundernagar PS Sunday late evening. They were returning from the market to Rajdoha village in Jadugora when the mishap occurred. They were critically injured in the incident.

They died during treatment at Tata Main Hospital. Soon after the incident, the car driver, Chandan Singh, a CRPF ASI, was severely beaten up by local villagers for allegedly driving in an inebriated condition.

The villagers alleged that the police were favouring the CRPF ASI and had given him bail.

They said liquor bottles were recovered from the possession of the accused and he was also found drunk at the time of accident.
