Jamshedpur: Verdict in three Al Qaeda-linked terror cases on February 28

Jamshedpur, Feb 16: The court of ADJ-1 Vimlesh Kumar Sahay has scheduled February 28 as the date for announcing the verdict in three cases related to the Al Qaeda terrorist organization. The cases, registered under ST numbers 12/2021, 424/2018 and 219/2021, involve multiple accused, including Maulana Kalimuddin Mujahid from Azadnagar Mango, Mohammad Abdul Rehman Ali Khan alias Maulana Mansoor alias Katki from Cuttack, Odisha and Abdul Shami from Dhatkidih B Block.

These cases date back to 2016 when an FIR was filed based on information from the Delhi Special Team. The then Bistupur police station in-charge, Jitendra Kumar Singh, received intelligence about Ahmed Masood Akram Sheikh alias Masood from Dhatkidih, who was suspected of being linked to Al Qaeda. During interrogation, Masood admitted his connections with the terrorist group, revealing that he had met Abdul Rehman alias Katki in 2003 at Sakchi Jama Masjid and had received Jihadi training in Saudi Arabia. He also disclosed that Raju alias Naseem Akhtar from Mango supplied weapons to the organization.

During raids, police recovered a 9 mm loaded pistol from Masood’s house. Testimonies from 16 witnesses have been recorded and the accused have been presented in court via video conferencing. The final verdict will be closely watched.
