Jamshedpur, May 3: A 27 year old Burudih resident, Ranjan Pramanik who reported at Ganga Memorial Hospital in Mango with severe stomach pain, was examined and inguinal hernia was found. In the course of the operation the surgeon found a fully developed uterus and fallopian tubes in Pramanik’s abdomen. Specialist in gynecology and obstetrics, Dr Manjula Srivastava was consulted and she performed the surgery and removed the uterus and fallopian tubes. The surgery took 90 minutes.
Dr Manjula Srivastava said that this development was known as Persistent Müllerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS). Surgeon Dr. Nagendra Singh, Dr Manjula Srivastava and Anesthesiologist Dr Rudra Pratap comprised the team of medics who performed the operation. Meanwhile, the patient, Ranjan Pramanik of Burudih village in Saraikela was reported to have recovered post surgery.
According to information received from Ganga Memorial Hospital authorities, Ranjan Pramanik was operated upon for hernia free of cost under the Ayushman Yojana while the uterus and fallopian tubes’ surgery was also performed free of cost at the Ganga Memorial Hospital. It may be mentioned that 27 year old Ranjan, being financially weak, had been suffering from this ailment for several years as he was unable to afford the cost of treatment. He is a laborer.
