Jamshedpur, May 3: In a concerning trend, cases of snatching in the city have been on the rise in recent months. In a recent incident, two women fell victim to a snatching on their way at Bistupur and Sakchi.
The incident took place in broad daylight when the victim, Saroj Padia, a resident of Jugsalai, was riding a pillion on a scooty, and a person riding a motorbike came up from behind and snatched her purse. She fell down as the victim was visibly shaken by the incident. Her son Pankaj Padia immediately informed the Bistupur police station, who have launched an investigation into the matter. Her purse carried a mobile phone and cash worth Rs 7,000. The victim was seriously injured and was rushed to Tata Main Hospital for treatment.
In another incident, miscreants snatched a purse at Sakchi from a woman near Hotel Sagar. Resident of Birsanagar, women filed a complaint in Sakchi Police Station. According to reports the bag contained Rs 5000 cash and a gold chain.
These incidents are just one of many that have been reported in the city in recent months, with a significant increase in the number of cases of snatching. Many have attributed this increase to the current economic situation and the desperation of some individuals to make quick money.
The police have urged citizens to be cautious and to take necessary precautions while travelling or walking alone in public places. They have also advised citizens to avoid carrying valuables, such as jewellery or expensive electronic devices, while travelling on public transport or in public places.
The incident has once again highlighted the need for increased vigilance and the importance of community policing in addressing such crimes. The police have assured citizens that they are taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of citizens in the city and have urged citizens to report any suspicious activity or incidents immediately.
The incident has also sparked a debate about the need for stricter laws and harsher penalties for those involved in such crimes. Many have called for a crackdown on the illegal trade of stolen goods and for increased measures to be taken to prevent such crimes from occurring in the first place.
As the investigation into the incident continues, citizens are being urged to remain vigilant and to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and security in public places. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for a collective effort to address the issue of rising crime rates in the city.
