Jamshedpur tyre godown fire: FIR lodged against proprietor

Jamshedpur, May 30: An FIR was registered against the proprietors of the tyre godown in Anand Vihar Colony near National Highway 33 a day after a massive fire mishap here on Monday.

The accused persons, Vinod Yadav and his brother Mahendra Yadav, both residents of Bhuiyandih and Sidhgora respectively, have been accused of violating Jharkhand Municipal Act by opening the tyre godown in a densely populated residential area, sources said.

The FIR was lodged at the MGM police station on the information of Rahul Kumar, City Manager of Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) on the instructions of MMC Executive Officer Deepak Sahai.

As many as 6500 tyres worth several crores were gutted in yesterday’s fire which was reportedly caused by a short circuit. The fire was controlled by 17 fire tenders working for more than 18 hours. It started at 2 am yesterday and was controlled only after dusk.

East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jadhav and other senior district administration officials had reached the fire mishap site yesterday and ordered action against the godown owner.

Meanwhile, the officer in-charge of MGM PS, Mithilesh Kumar Singh said the accused persons would be questioned in connection with the fire mishap and arrested if found guilty.

The MMC City Manager Rahul Kumar reached the fire mishap site this morning and conducted a probe into the cause of the incident. He said the fire was caused by recklessness of the godown proprietor. The godown was opened and run without government permission, he said.

The godown proprietors had not informed the MMC officials or the district officials about their business and had hence violated the various provisions of the Jharkhand Municipal Act, sources said.
