Jamshedpur, May 26: Sakchi police arrested two persons for alleged ATM fraud attempt on Thursday. The accused persons are reportedly members of a gang which targets gullible ATM users under pretext of helping them withdraw money and swaps their ATM card with fake ones. Later, when the victims are gone, the gang members use their ATMs to withdraw money, said police.
The accused persons are residents of Maharashtra. They were residing at a hotel near Tatanagar railway station. Cops recovered over 100 ATM cards from their possession. The accused duo used to visit ATM kiosks having no security guards around to look for their targets. Whenever someone facing difficulty in withdrawing cash from the ATM was found, they would ask them to give their card to them and would swap it. Later, the ATM was used to withdraw all the money from the account of the victims, police said.
During interrogation, the accused said they committed such crimes in various cities and states by turn.
Police are trying to identify and nab other members of the ATM fraud gang.
